LOGAN'S POV The morning sun streamed through the tall windows of my study, throwing long, golden rectangles across the polished wood floor. I leaned back in my chair, feet crossed on the edge of the desk, as Redmond shifted a bit uneasily beside me. Raven sat on the opposite side, her hands curled around a steaming cup of tea, eyes bright with curiosity. “So the Bithron,” Raven began, breaking the silence with a pointed glance. “Are they leaving soon?”

"Power is nothing if you’re hitting the air," I countered. Raven was sitting on a wooden crate nearby, sharpening a silver dagger. She looked up, her amber eyes dancing with amusement. She loved us, but she also loved watching us act like idiots. "If you two are going to measure your egos all afternoon, at least make it interesting," she said. I looked at Jax. Jax looked at me. A slow, dangerous smile spread across his face.

Raven was glad that she could provide a moment of levity for him, even if it was just for a moment. She hesitated for a moment before speaking, “I'm sorry…” she said, offering her condolences. As he smiled, Raven couldn't help but notice how his face changed. He reminded her of Lumiére when he smiled and did that thing with his eyebrows. She found herself staring at him for a moment before he spoke again, bringing her back to reality. “Don’t be, she deserved it…” he said, his face changing to one of anger. Raven couldn't help but feel a little unsettled by the sudden shift in his demeanor. He obviously admired this Phoenix. So what it a love hate relationship?

His teeth were darkened with what seemed like many years of tobacco intake, and his breath stunk of smoke and decayed food. “He was trying to kidnap our Rebecca, don’t you see?” the bald one stated. “Unhand me immediately,” Jacob said in a low threatening voice. “You got the nerve to talk after what we caught you doing?!” the hairy guy bellowed, raising his hand, about to strike Jacob. “Stop James! He wasn’t trying to hurt me. Leave him, John.” Rebecca yelled weakly. The hefty dudes known as James and John stared at each other and then at Rebecca.

I felt tears stinging my eyes as Raven lay motionless in my arms. She was breathing, but her heart was still racing. Her eyelids started to flutter, then she slowly opened her eyes. “Raven, I’m so, so sorry. Please forgive me. Do you need me to take you to the clinic?” Raven did not say anything. She just lay there staring at me. Which I think was even scarier than when her eyes had been closed. But as my gaze roamed over her face, her lips stretched into that beautiful smile that I love. “Will it always be like that?” She asked as she licked her lips.

Raven thought his death was near when he saw dozens of red eyes behind the trees in the Forbidden Forest. Raven had just learned that one of the Shadow Wolves fighting him was a scout. Raven was completely underestimated as an Omega; even the scout Shadow Wolves thought he was weak and could be easily killed.

That was all I wanted. In my anger, I bumped into Rowan. We were still walking on eggshells around each other. “Hey, are you okay?” He said slowly. “You look tense.” Rowan loved Raven. He cared about her since the moment she showed up. He had acted as though Raven was the sibling he spent his life with. Meanwhile, I am the sibling he actually spent his life with. I was going to tell him—I wanted him to know—that the person that he cared for the most didn’t share that same thought toward him.
