I froze. The gleam of silver caught the light, alongside the sparking of the black and red diamond, encrusted in its handle— the Darkhaven heirloom.

So did we. Elara sat cross-legged on the edge of the massive four-poster bed—its ebony frame carved with protective ravens in mid-dive, canopy draped in heavy velvet that smelled faintly of cedar and old spells. The crystal—the anchor fragment, now fully attuned to our diad—balanced carefully between her palms, no larger than a raven's egg but heavy with the weight of worlds. Delicate filaments of her fire threaded around it in lazy spirals, not aggressive or commanding, but exploratory: tendrils of flame-essence caressing its faceted surface like a lover tracing scars, patient and precise.

He informed me as he held it out for me to take. I delicately took it from him when I saw how old and fragile it looked, with the binding of it covered in dust. I stared at the cover which was a dark blue, and an engraved Golding band around the edge with a sketch of a black wolf in the middle. Just above the wolf it said, ‘The sacred wolves of the night’. “Are there any books on the other breeds of wolves?”. I asked him curiously. “No, just that one, and if you give it a read, you’ll soon find out why”.

The lady was surprised and confused when he suddenly cut her off. "Y-Yes? I think she placed it on her vanity area." He felt like he was being poured with a glass of cold water when his speculation was confirmed. Hyde remembered it when he went to the victim's vanity table. He remembered what it looked like. A bird darker than a crow, and usually eats flesh from dead animals. A bird that means DEATH... A CARRION CROW.
