Dressed in black combat suits, they blended with the shadows, hopping under the covers of one building after the other. "Delta one speaking. We're at the intersection of 6th and 7th street. Hawk one, come in," Chanel’s voice buzzed through the comms. Hawk team was their eyes and ears in today's mission. "Updates on position."

Just as I had thought, everything I had needed to get in Mission 003 was in here. Different pistols, revolvers, shotguns and other models I couldn't even remember were in the bag. Other weapons like daggers and grenades were in there too. Even security cameras and laser tripwires were in there. Technically, this stranger— Ryder— helped me complete my missions. And he didn't ask for anything. The same question rang in my head. Why? I eventually hit the road and drove back to the plant with questions that I might never get answers to. After parking the car in the building, I took the bag with me and went to the top floor of the building, a place I've never really explored since I came here.

Sky: “Dad says we might be here for a week. Kill me now.” Charlie stared at the message, wanting to write paragraphs back but settling for: “Hang in there. Not the familiar rumble of Marcus’s SUV or any of the security detail vehicles. These were lighter, faster engines.

“It will break, and you will break with it.” “Not today,” I said, and drove my claws into its chest. The scream that followed shook dust from the chains above, but the song died with it. The others shrieked once, then dissolved into black mist that retreated down the tunnel as fast as it had come. Silence crashed over the chamber. The stranger looked at the chains, then at me. “The second blow has been turned. For now.” Seren sheathed her blade. “And the third?” The stranger’s gaze didn’t leave me. “The third isn’t a fight.”

Her breath caught. It had been a long time. Too long. And it shouldn’t be this. Not to the sound of a stranger’s voice. Not to someone she hadn’t spoken to. Not to someone she couldn’t trust. But her body didn’t care about any of that. When she came, it was quiet. Shallow. Shameful. The kind that left a sting behind her eyelids. She didn’t sleep again. The next day was warm. The kind of dry heat that stuck to the skin and made clothes feel too tight.

Rebecca had just walked out to the hallway, he stared at her silently for a few seconds and then he turned back to Jimmy. “Sorry Bud, maybe I am cursed, but I will try not to cause any further damage,” he replied almost in a whisper and then he walked away, leaving the drunk Jimmy standing confused in the hallway. Xavier headed back to his car, he had come with a driver as his arm was not still strong enough to drive. He was lucky to be even walking around without a rope tied to it. Xavier was worried with the way this would turn out. If things didn’t go as planned, if the Queens do not cooperate with him, this might be the last time he steps foot into this building.
