Jevro said as he walked towards the exit. When I looked back at Alistair, the man was smiling as he slightly waved his hand to say goodbye to me. I just nodded my head in response before I followed Jevro. "According to the report that Alfonso received, the monster that is currently attacking is an Acon. The body of the acon is that of a Lion, the tail is round at the end with thorns, the head is that of an eagle and has wings. " Jevro gives details as I follow him.

The thing shrieked and disappeared beneath the surface in a spray of black water. “Move!” Fabian hauled Amon up. “Both of you, move!” We stumbled across the rest of the bridge and collapsed on solid ground. My head was spinning. My thoughts felt sluggish, like I was thinking through water. “What was that?” I gasped. “Class C Mesmer.” Miranda was checking Amon’s leg where the thing had grabbed him. The skin was pale and bloodless, with marks that looked like sucker wounds. “You’re lucky Fabian moved fast. Another few seconds and you’d both be in that stream.”

He looked like he was in agony. But I was staring at the fresh scar on the webbing of his right hand, my entire body turning ice cold. That scar was identical to the one on the hand holding the woman's waist in the profile picture of the anonymous poster I had just seen. If I remembered correctly, that scar appeared three months ago. I was two months pregnant then, and we were walking in the deep forest. A feral Rogue suddenly rushed out. Kael didn't think twice before shielding me, fighting the beast with his bare hands.

“You’re safe from other monsters.” My quickened pulse returned. “Other monsters? Are you a monster? Is Em?”

His hand lifted, hovered just inches from the handle. If he turned it , if he stepped inside there’d be no undoing it. Not this time. He could finish what they started. Bury himself so deep inside that mouth, inside that want, that for a few hours, he wouldn’t have to think about betrayal and bloodlines and wedding vows. He could forget. But the thing about monsters was they followed you, even after the lights went out. And Rafael already knew, no matter how hard he tried to kill this thing between them, it wouldn’t stay buried.

There was no way a Monster who was living off literal Mana Crystals wouldn’t have Skills. To prepare himself for what was to come, Rey activated his [Safe Haven] Skill. “Now let’s see—” ~WHOOOOSH!~ The Monster growled angrily as it shot from its position, lunging straight at Rey. “Haha! That’s more like it!” Rey's grin widened with excitement as he watched the creature rush towards him. His heart pounded in his chest as the beast closed the distance rapidly, its speed and power increasing exponentially, but that wasn’t all Rey wanted to see.

Marcus asked, his voice sounded helpless. Before anyone could answer, it charged. The three of then summoned their wolf Speeds and moved out of the way. For its size, the thing was big. Marcus was fast but unlucky. The monster hit him with its long thick tail and sent him flying. Steve jumped at the monster and cut of one of its ears in a fast move but it only made the monster angry and it hit the alpha just as fast in the chest. The paw of Five Head knocked the wind out of Steve and sent him sprawling towards the edge of the roof. Emma sniped her needles into its head and was surprised that it penetrated the monsters face.

The second I gasped for air I knew the monster had failed. Pain still burned through my neck but it faded fast. My eyes snapped open. The world rushed back with firelight and shadows. Aziel Nightbane stood frozen a few steps away. He stared down at me like I was a nightmare crawling out of the grave. My bones clicked back into place one by one. Skin pulled tight over the break. I sucked in a deep breath and felt the mate bond flare hot between us. It pulsed stronger than before and linked every beat of my heart to his.
