Her face drained of its color, twisting grotesquely while her chest heaved in frantic gasps as though her lungs were about to collapse.

Kael inhaled deeply, eyes fluttering half-closed in pure male satisfaction. “Bed, little wolf. Before I break every ethical line I set today.” I fled to the guest room like a coward, but sleep wouldn’t come. Hours later, I padded barefoot down the hall toward the kitchen for water. Light spilled from the living room. Kael was there, shirtless, pacing with a tablet in hand. Scars crisscrossed his back and shoulders—old battles, power earned in blood. Moonlight silvered the strong lines of his body. My mouth went dry.

He muttered as he opened the Writers app to read the most popular stories on the app. He opened chapter 16, because the last time he read it was in chapter 15. Although he was reluctant to read the scenes that made him shudder, he finally did. The man showed his smile to the world, as if confirming he was the winner. A lion that roars loudly, making anyone who hears its sound frightened or a gorilla that beats its chest to show its power.

The first message from a reader came that evening. Not a review — a message. Someone who had read the book, or begun reading it, and had written to her through the website Leo had built. A short message. Six sentences. She read it at her desk after dinner. I read the first three chapters of your book on the train home tonight.
