Larissa confidently replied, "I've finished them all." Ambrose arched his eyebrow. Larissa brought back an entire backpack of books, and they were all incredibly thick, loaded with intricate medical information. Did she genuinely manage to read them all in just two days? "My memory is really good. I can remember everything after reading it once," Larissa confidently stated. Ambrose smiled and said, "Well, I can't wait to see you perform well in your exam tomorrow." "That's for sure!" Over the past two nights, Larissa's intense focus on her books resulted in her dozing off due to pure exhaustion.

No way. "You... finished them?" He shrugged. "That isn't possible." I hadn't even given a single thought to it yesterday since he left because I was sure he wouldn't meet up and had only been bluffing. There was no way he could've read eight books in less than twenty four hours. That shouldn't be possible. "You doubting me? Ask me anything." He crossed his arms. My eyes couldn't resist traveling to his hands where tattoos peeked out of his jacket. "O... Okay." I cleared my throat and reached for North Shore Series. "Who were the main characters of book three? Delightful Sins."

The rest of the day is a blur of ink-smudged fingers, dust-coated shelves, and the occasional headache from reading way too many book titles that have no business being that long. Nothing significant happens, unless you count the minor scandal of a first-year trying to smuggle out a whole stack of books in their tote bag. Apparently, six books at a time wasn’t enough for them. I don’t blame them. If I could escape into a dozen different worlds right now, I would.

Ernest knew this from the quality Thomas had on Monday morning: the quality of someone who has read something significant and has had three days to sit with it. Thomas's reading quality was specific. He did not read quickly. He read slowly, carefully, the way he worked in the garden. He read in the evenings, after his work was done, sitting in his own kitchen with his own coffee in his own cup. I’ll give them a call in the morning to see if they are available Saturday. I have a hard time sleeping, so I curl up in bed with a book. It felt impossible to take more books and read again since we had read a lot the previous day. "What can we do today?" I asked as I looked around the room.

I sat down, opened it slowly, and started to read every page with focus. Time passed without me noticing. Many hours went by as I read everything I could find. I did not skip any part. My eyes began to twitch in pain from reading so much, but I refused to stop. I had spent many days reading books in this library before. I knew its contents well. Yet no matter how much I searched and read, none of the books said anything at all about a golden wolf.

"What are you reading? Besides the textbook." The change in subject threw me. "Um, I just finished The Stand by Stephen King." His eyes lit up. "The Stand? That's over a thousand pages. You actually finished it?" "I've read it three times," I admitted. "Three times?" He looked genuinely impressed. "Most people won't even read it once because of the length." "The length is part of the appeal," I said, feeling slightly more confident talking about books. "You get to live in that world for longer, get to know the characters so deeply. It's like being part of something bigger than yourself."
