She continued flipping to the next page. “Well you had better not let the book take up all of your time. You know we still have chores to carry out.” “Whatever,” she replied playfully with an eyeroll. Now she sat cross-legged on the bed, eyes sparkling as she read aloud, her voice stumbling over a few words but never losing its eagerness. “‘The knight… rode into the… the dark forest,’” she sounded the words carefully, lips moving slowly as she traced the lines with her finger. “He wasn’t… afraid, even though the trees were… whispering secrets.”

I watched her gesture wildly as she explained that her favorite character was Nikolai even though she related more with Brandon. “…how do you know all these?” My eyes darted to the bookmark between the pages of the book. “You’re like in the middle of the book.” Her cheeks flushed as a giggle escaped her lips. “This is the tenth time I'm reading this.” “No way,” I gasped. “You wouldn't understand until you've read the book.” My nose scrunched up. “I don't like reading novels.” She gasped, placing a hand on her chest like I had offended her. “You should be jailed, in fact I'm making sure you read every book I have on my shelf.”
