You know—the ones that don’t card.” Gemma reached for her phone, then pointed toward the desk. “I’ll help if you bring back a mocha latte. There’s money right there.” Freddy plucked the ten‑dollar bill off the desk and held it up. “Awfully trusting, aren’t you? Just handing me cash.”

Freddie announced. A Center? I turned to Ledger with a brow raised. He nodded in agreement. Huh, interesting. Something about that info didn't sit well with me. “Doesn't that make you both rivals?” I blurted out before I could stop myself. The silence that came after that was awkward. Zeke chuckled nervously. “Almost. Freddie plays as a Right Defenseman these days.” He said, shooting Freddie a look that said, ‘why didn't you just say that?’

Felix glared at Freddo “What he needs now is rest and not that alcohol in your mind!” Felix almost yelled to Freddos face “That's okay guys, we can celebrate if that's what Freddo wants” “Yess….” Freddo dance in excitement, while the others shook their heads in annoyance

Rebecca looked at me, her expression as cold and detached as if she were delivering a formal announcement to an employee. "Mrs. Hale has already adopted Freddie," she said, her voice dripping with authority. "From now on, you and Freddie are brothers; you're both heirs to Hale Group. So stop trying to put him down. Oh, and by the way, Freddie will be attending our college now. You know how people are there—always looking to climb the social ladder. So Mrs. Hale and I decided that, for the public, we'll just say Freddie is the Hales' youngest son who's been living abroad and just recently came back."

Freddie sent out another hoot of laughter. “Dignity? Boy, what man wouldn’t love to have all the pretty ladies practically throw themselves at his feet?” Freddie exclaimed between laughter and James allowed his disgust to show. None of those women really were interested in him but his pretty boy face, as Freddie put it, or his bad ass reputation.

All their attention was on Jessica. Freddie had spent his life as a warrior, achieving great military glory. He retired at 40 years old, married, and started a family. His son, Jonathan, was now 28 years old. Freddie himself was 68 years old, nearing his twilight years. Jessica Cook had just turned 18 years old. She was born when Freddie was already 50 years old. Having been born to him so late in his years, she was a rare gift. Thus, it was no surprise he spoiled her rotten.

“How could you suddenly just… die? You were perfectly fine just a moment ago! Huh? Speak to me! Open your eyes and look at me! I am your brother, Logan. Eva, please talk to me.” He shook my shoulders frantically. However, no matter how desperately he called out, the corpse lying on the floor offered no response. Only my hair swayed slightly with his movements, making my lifeless face look even more grim. He fell to his knees beside me, his shoulders shaking violently as he let out broken, sobbing whimpers.
