The vision of Frank and his female of choice washed over her again, the girl in her vision nothing like what she looked like herself. I shrugged off the oversized, heavy down jacket. Underneath, I wore only a thin cotton base layer. Under the lights, my body looked distorted by how thin it had become. My collarbones sank deep, my ribs jutted out one by one, and there was almost no flesh left on my waist or stomach. I looked like a skeleton, dried out by the wind. A collective gasp rippled through the room. The relatives who had just been talking over each other to criticize me all fell silent. Their expressions shifted—from reproach, to shock, to utter disbelief.

Sylvester is six-foot-five and is very skinny. His square face is bristly and mostly sunken in.
