HAYLEE ~<>~ While waiting for my test results and Xalen’s return to the palace, I dug into the one book that seemed to have held on to my attention and mind—Cursed in Crimson. Just like Flavia narrated briefly, the first red wolf was quite phenomenal and pitiful. Reading about her felt like torture because I could have sworn I was transported back in time to the era and place she existed. I could have sworn I felt every whip and lash she had to endure, even though she was powerful enough to destroy the entire realm.

RILEY POV Raden placed herself in front of me and growled. “you’re not supposed to be up here without Ryder’s permission.” She glared at him. “And I know there’s no way in hell that he’d give you permission to be near HIS mate! So, you need to take your douche bag ass outta her!” She snarled at him. Damn, she’s gonna be a warrior wolf to contend with when she gets older. “CONNOR!” She yelled at the top of her lungs.

He winked, and Jenny smiled. The late March afternoon wasn't inordinately warm, but it was as dry as ever. From the small backpack he'd worn, Cole retrieved a pair of bottled waters, handing one to Jenny. She unscrewed the cap and sipped thirstily as she stood at the edge of the rise looking out over the ranch below. Recapping her water, she tucked it under her arm and scribbled on her board. I had no idea how big the ranch is.

Dreyar swore and retracted his long, sharp claws. ______________________________ RUBY VERMILLION The wolves howled after him, the Alpha. Their haunting battle cry echoed across the wide mountains, and even from below, I felt it in my bones. Down at the foot of the mountain, his powerful roar resounded, majestic and angry. I wondered if the others heard it too—the villagers of Ambersnook, whom we had secretly begun escorting away under the veil of the storm. Their faces stayed in my mind. The way they hesitated. The way their chests grew heavy as they left the Alpha behind.

That meant that I had missed out on nearly five years of training. One thing that Talia and Vivian had shared with me was how calming the guardian wolves could be for their red wolf. Because the red wolf always seemed to be tuned in to the emotions of others, it could be overwhelming at times. The guardian wolves offered a sense of grounding for their red wolf. It helped in situations that were emotionally intense or when the red wolf had to use their abilities.

Andre sounds exasperated that he has to even explain what they are already aware of. “Can you explain why your brother would agree to leave Crimson Dawn just to run back to them after twelve weeks at White Ridge? If things are so bad at Red Fang for him why did he choose to return and why is he choosing now to try and run?” I’m shocked at the sudden callousness that Arthur has towards Cole.
