The second trial comes in the form of a child. Her name is Mira, and she's eight years old with silver eyes that glow too bright and dreams that manifest whether she wants them to or not. The contents hissed and bubbled, turning from black to glowing red. The liquid shimmered. Then, it rose into a floating orb—translucent, like a crystal ball made of fog and flame. Inside it… Mira and Luca. The vision showed them curled beneath a hollow tree. Mira’s arms wrapped protectively around the unconscious boy, her face streaked with dirt and resolve. Her lips moved as if whispering comfort. Luca barely stirred. Alexa smiled. “Oh, sweet little Mira,” she whispered. “How noble. How brave. How foolish.”
