“Mum… he said he’s sorry.”
Sarah nodded slowly. “I heard.”
“Do you believe him?” Daniel asked.
Her answer came after a long, thoughtful pause. “I believe he regrets,” she said. “And regret is a starting point. Not the end.”
Daniel didn’t reply. He leaned his head back against the seat, folding his arms as though he wanted to keep the emotions from spilling.
Sarah watched him out of the corner of her eye — the way he blinked more slowly, the way he bit down slightly on the inside of his cheek.
