I didn’t want that. I started running towards the attic. I knew everything I did was ruining the plan I set for my goal but she was right; he hasn’t enough time left and I truly wanted to share memories with him. Regrets only exist to show us an alternate of our choices. What if I regretted not sharing enough time with him, not having enough memories to remember him by, getting drunk on his scent again would be refreshing.

“Do you regret it—what we had?” The man shakes his head instantly. “I would never.” A long pause, mingled with beating hearts and sweating foreheads, ensues. “I only regret how it ended. I regret leaving the way I did. But meeting you is the best thing that ever happened to me.” I notice his use of present tense instead of past tense. “Is?” I ask. My curiosity overwhelmed me.

He climbs slowly to his feet, grunting as he stretches out his back, before reaching down to pick up my plate. “Do you ever regret it?” I can’t help but ask, though I’m not even sure what I want to know. Regret life? Regret logging? He seems to understand what I mean though, as he smiles gently. “Nothing in life is ever worth regretting. You see, Lena, regret is like mold. You can scrub and scrub until it’s out of sight, but it always comes back if you let things get damp again. So, I try not to let life get damp.”

“Say anything.” “I… feel this immense pain in my heart every time I think of her.” He tried to find the words. “Like I was wrong about her, that she didn’t deserve all the pain I put her through.” “What you are feeling son, is regret.” “Regret?” He echoed. “Hmm, I have never regretted anything I have done in my life.” “There is a first time for everything. After all we are nothing but mere wolves in this life. You are not as all knowing as the moon goddess, so you are bound to make mistakes.”

A series of my hatred collapsed with my newly build feelings that were very much comfortable than the pain I was feeling. I looked in his eyes. They were truthful and consuming. At this moment, I want to forget everything and get with him. I want to leave everything and touch him. At this moment, I am willing to lose my dignity.
