Finding out I have to kill Sage has been a hard pill to swallow. I have a few months left of my pregnancy before I have to lore Sage onto sacred ground and kill her to unite lycans and werewolves. Out of all the scenarios I imagined how I would finish this destiny quest, killing Sage wasn’t one of them. While Sage and I are no longer friends, and I hold deep resentment towards her for how she used me, I still don’t want to kill her. Zane suggested I have Sasha take control for the actual killing part. It’s not a bad idea and one that I’m going to go with because it’s the only way I can even attempt to stomach what I have to do.

I clicked on the communicator. “Remo, Ferro, Matteo, report.” “The darts are working,” Ferro said. “We're quickly taking care of those on the northern side.”

I began to walk forward, wanting to get a better view. Jayme came to my side almost immediately, his hand resting on my shoulder just as I saw the male sentry leap forward, claws extended, and hurl what appeared to be a brown deer into the snow. The female sentry flanked his side momentarily and I watched as she sank her own claws into the deer's body, ignoring the cries from the animal, only stopping when her claws were embedded deeply into it. I winced as she twisted her arm, and the noises emitting from the animal cut off sharply. Bones cracked and I watched as the male sentry withdrew what looked to be a large sack.

“Then we go.” Leo’s gaze flicked to him. “You’ll keep up?” The corner of Rem’s mouth quirked — a shadow of the smile Leo once knew so well. “Watch me.” They joined the second wave, storming through the shattered gates as Kane’s fury unleashed. Gunfire split the night, grenades shook the compound, men screamed as steel clashed and bullets ripped through flesh. Rem fought like a man possessed, his blade swift, his movements merciless. Leo stayed close, covering his back, their rhythm too natural, too practiced — the muscle memory of old lovers fighting side by side.

When our bellies were near full the hairs on the back of Ryder’s neck stood up and Remy gave a low, territorial growl. The second mistake was not shifting and carrying the deer out.
