Then the Remnant opened its mouth.
There were no teeth.
No tongue.
Just a spiraling void that pulled air into it like a slow inhale.
The wards cracked overhead.
Lira cursed and thrust her hands forward. Sigils flared to life in front of her, slamming into a barrier that wavered like stretched glass and then shattered.
The Remnant didn’t even flinch.
Kael didn’t wait.
He lunged.
His blade met the Remnant’s arm with a sound like metal striking wet stone. The creature rippled, the hit landing, but distorting, warping, refusing to break.
