Breaking The Spotlight
She stared at her hand in his, the stark white bandage against his darker skin, the symbol of something neither of them said aloud: she might shatter, but he’d be there to hold the pieces.
When she finally looked up, tears shimmered in her eyes. “I don’t want to be fragile.”
“You’re not,” he said fiercely. “You’re stronger than anyone I’ve ever known. They see tears and call it weakness. I see you fight through hell and still stand. That’s not fragile. That’s unbreakable.”
Her breath caught. For a moment, she let herself lean into him, her forehead against his chest. His arms came around her, strong, grounding.
