I just stared at him, unable to say anything. He introduced himself to me and after a very lengthy conversation I learnt that he was the leader of the group he called 'the Rebel'; That their planet had been taken over by The Force, a group that overthrew the government, killed almost everyone of them with supernatural abilities that refused to work for them and enslaved other citizens. The Rebel was formed to identify those with powers and bring them such that when their numbers grew big they would rise up against the Force and reclaim their land.

“I saw a Queen who doesn't know how to lead! I saw a hybrid who is more concerned with her own power than the safety of her subjects!” The words were a physical blow. Rebel felt something inside her soul fracture. “If that is what you think of me,” she said, her voice trembling with a lethal coldness, “then you never knew me at all.” “Maybe the Moon Goddess made a mistake,” Elijah said, the words falling like lead into the silence. Time seemed to stop. Rebel’s breath caught in her throat, her chest freezing as if she had been plunged into a glacial lake. She looked at Elijah, searching for any sign that he was joking, but his face was set in a mask of rigid duty and suspicion.

The machine of Aeternum was already moving, and nothing in Lone Star could stop its march. The air I breathed was thick with the scent of ozone and the damp earth of Star City’s forgotten underbelly. My comms unit crackled with static, a faint echo of the chaos brewing above. This was it. The final act. Below, in the suffocating dark, the rebels were amateurs — bakers, smiths, washerwomen, apprentices. Their blades were dull, their hands trembling, but their hearts, I knew, pounded with a conviction stronger than any steel. They were not alone, not truly.

I heard the familiar voice of Gonzalo ring from behind me. Natasha jumps on my body, clutching her hands to my chest, as I try to shield her face from meeting his own. “Am I missing something here, Raul? If not, why is the first daughter of the house of Miklaus in the company of the rebel leader?” The bass of his voice rose as his eyes glowed angrily at us. The clouds crackled lightly, and soon the sky started to tear up.

The screen flickers, then a folder pops up. Project Genesis – Restricted Access. My stomach twists. I click it. At first, there’s nothing but code — encrypted lines that mean nothing to me. But then I see a file labeled “Reed Protocol.” Reed. Axel’s last name. My heart stutters. I open it, and a video file appears — dated five years ago. I press play. Static. Then a man’s voice. Deep. Familiar. “My name is Dr. Samuel Reed,” he says. “If you’re watching this, it means Genesis has failed. It means the subjects are awake.”
