After finishing the chocolate cupcakes, Amanda led James upstairs to his bedroom, which was at the far end of the corridor opposite Kevin and Emma's master bedroom, while Emma went to check on Ivy after learning the little girl had been looking for her since morning. Emma entered Ivy's room and found her sleeping soundly but her storybooks still lay on the duvet. Emma tucked Ivy into the blanket and kissed her on the cheek. Her heart brimmed with love and tenderness as she watched the little girl drift off to dreamland. She took Ivy's favorite storybook, The Sleeping Beauty, from her hands and placed it on the table beside the bed, thinking her obsession with fairy tales

As my body started to shiver, the owner of the hand tightened the cover of my mouth. I almost halted my breath when the Lycan King stepped forward in our direction. I thought that I was going to end my life. King Edward was atrocious when he quickened his pace.

Blood spills out from open wound. I take a step back as Valdis begins to stand again. He disappears into the kitchen and returns with a glass of water and a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel. "Here." He presses the makeshift ice pack gently to my throat. "Hold this. It'll help with the swelling." I do as he says, wincing at the cold. My throat is killing me, every swallow feels like razor blades. "I'm going to kill him," Rhys says quietly. "I'm going to find him and I'm going to kill him." "You already almost did." "Not enough. Not nearly enough." He sits beside me on the bed, staring at his bloody knuckles. "When I came around that corner and saw him... saw his hands on your throat... I've never felt rage like that in my entire life."

Time passed, though she could no longer measure it. Exhausted, she collapsed on the floor, unable to speak.
