“Try it on.” She continues scouting for dresses. We eventually settle for something else. I'm wearing a red silk dress, not tight-fitting, but skimpy enough to attract the wrong kind of men. For Riley, she opts for a sheer playsuit that stops way above her knees and gives off the fine shapes of her breasts. She’s braless, bold. “One minute.” She rushes to her small sewing machine and starts amending something I can't really make out. If there’s one thing you can't steal from Riley is that she’s the master of all trades.

Riley woke up and got ready. She threw on a pair of dark blue denim jeans with a white tank top and a black blazer with a pair of black heels. She wanted to look more business casual. She threw her hair up in a sleek ponytail and applied minimal makeup. She looked in the mirror. This was it. This was her first assignment. She felt she looked the part. Hopefully, she wouldn't fall too behind in her end of year assignments. However, she was sure she could work online from the other pack. Riley then grabbed her bags and headed to the pack house.

She wanted the weekend alone to herself and she felt even happier when she found out Laim will be coming over to keep her company. Liam showed up that evening in a Black T-shirt stretched across his chest, faded jeans, six-pack dangling from his fingers. “Ethan texted. He said the place was empty, and I figured you might be bored out of your mind.” Riley opened the door barefoot, wearing tiny sleep shorts and a thin cami that clung in the heat with no bra, straps thin enough to slip. She’d chosen the outfit deliberately, heart racing the whole time. “Hey, squirt.” His voice was casual, but his eyes dipped quickly scanning her body before locking back on her face.

Not that she thought it would do any good against a man like him. Riley felt incredibly small and grimy next to his large, well-dressed frame. She sat crouched on the concrete beneath him, wearing her usual tank top and grimy, oil-stained overalls with the top left to hang down. Her shiny, dark brown hair was pulled back in a messy ponytail and she wore no make-up.

Riley’s POV I nodded softly to my mirrored self, and a sigh of relief escaped my lips. Finally. Brown short pleated skirt, plain white tank top, and knee-length brown socks weren’t that bad of an idea. Even if these brown loafers made me look like a high schooler, I’d still put them on. At least high schoolers don’t wear makeup. So there’s a difference. Thirty minutes gone just picking out an outfit. I took a deep breath.

They judged. And she stuck out like a middle finger at a garden party. Rylee looked down at herself. Faded denim jeans, skin-tight and lovingly abused by years of stretching over her curves. Her tiny green crop top read “BAT BITCH” across the chest in bold black font. No makeup. Hair half-tied. Her loafers were clean though..thank God. If she’d worn heels, her ankles would’ve snapped from pacing. She looked hot. But she didn’t look rich.

Brockley released his embrace and picked up the clothes that were in their baggage. Riley was still completely naked, covering her chest and vital parts. He was still right in front of Brockley. Slowly, she put on her clothes, also with Brockley's help.

Luke shrugs, but there’s a faint blush on the points of his ears. “She let Luke pick the outfits,” Lili announces as if we were not there to witness the chaos. It’s most of these boys’ usual dress code, just tiny. Leather jacket, jeans, and boots. “I added the cute pom-pom beanie and the glitzy skull shirt,” River says proudly. Yeah, that’s different. “I was going for cool apocalypse survivor, not Build-A-Bear Barbie,” Luke mumbles. “You sort of ruined it.”

When she came out, she put on one of Luke's white cotton shirts, which fit her like a short dress, and a pair of his shorts that she had to secure with a makeshift belt.

Riley looked stunning in a kind of dark grey asymmetrical shirt, where part barely covered her stomach while the rest flowed down to her hips. She wore a pair of faded short jean shorts accompanied by the cowboy hat and boots that she was the day they first met. Jackson’s heart thundered when he saw her, just like it always did.
