POV: Mei Ling I made it down exactly three steps before the midday bell hit its seventh stroke. The iron didn't ring the way it used to. The intense cold had gotten deep into the metal, turning the grand, sweeping chiming into a series of flat, wooden thuds that sounded like someone hitting an old, frozen log with an ax. By the twelfth strike, the sound just sort of gave up, running out of breath entirely.

Our seventh wedding anniversary. I sat at the dining table—alone. My phone buzzed, lighting up with two messages. First, from Tom: [Working late at the office tonight.] Second, anonymous: [Tom is incredible. Can you even keep up?] Attached was a picture of him, lips locked with a woman I didn't recognize. I blew out the candles on the anniversary cake, my chest hollow. No reply from him. Typical. Probably "working overtime" in someone else's bed.

(Cell phone dings) The frequent dings of the cell phone ringing woke Alice up. She groaned inaudibly as she stirred in her sleep but the phone wouldn't stop ringing, forcing her awake and her senses which immediately got assaulted by the acrid stench of stale alcohol and the nauseating odor of semen. Her head throbbed mercilessly, a dull, relentless pounding that seemed to echo with every beat of her heart. She groaned loudly forcing herself to sit up as she held her head from the banging headache. She felt the taste of the previous night's liquor that still clung to her tongue, metallic and bitter, mingling with the dryness of her parched throat.

She looked at the time, seeing that it was 4am, and thought, 'Why is my phone going off this early in the morning?'

Ding dong ding dong. He heard the doorbell from his study. Surprisingly, he turned to the clock above his door which says 1am, he wasn't expecting anyone, if his brother wants to visit he would at least call, he went out to see who it was but on seeing the woman who have been giving him sleepless nights standing in front of the door through the monitor , he hurriedly open the door , she stood there smiling at him, he wanted to return the smile but he stopped himself when the realization stroked him , it's not her.Clara won't be out at such an ungodly hour dressed like this.

What the hell was that? I splashed water on my face and patted my cheeks. Forrest was just angry, he would never hurt me intentionally. He would never….. My thoughts were interrupted by my ringtone, loud in the silent room. I fished out my phone and squinted at the caller ID. “Hey Lang” I sighed out as I answered. “Elly baby, how are you doing? Its been so long since we last talked”I heard his deep voice echo through the phone, his tone light and happy.

It was a scene that no daydream could even dare to imagine. Ding dong, ding dong. The daydream was interrupted by two urgent doorbell rings.

Rrr- Rrr- This time, the sound of the doorbell echoing through the entire house broke the silence. "Yuhwan! It seems someone came!"
