"Marrying Mr. Vance isn't something you can just walk into. You'll need time to mentally prepare. "Here's what we'll do. Mr. Vance will arrive tomorrow, so you'll have the whole night to consider. In the meantime, the ring stays here." With that, he left the ring behind, got into his diamond-encrusted car, and drove off. We stared at the blinding diamond, too scared to move. For once, the three women who had spent years scheming against me were suddenly united. They dragged me into the living room for a quick huddle and slipped the ring onto their fingers one by one.

THE CHIMING of Brad's ringtone echoed in the dead quietness of his room. He groaned as he blindly reached for his phone in the darkness. With drowsy eyes, he checked the caller ID and it was Doris. He wiped his eyes. Probably he was seeing things due to the haziness of his sight. He checked his phone again and it was still her name boldly written on his screen. Then he checked the time and it was 1:56 am.

DANIELLE'S P.O.V. The familiar chime of my ringtone echoed in the quiet room, breaking the silence and causing me to rouse from my slumber. I groaned in exhaustion, and with my eyes still closed, I searched for my phone by blindly patting the bedside table with my right hand.

POV: Mei Ling I made it down exactly three steps before the midday bell hit its seventh stroke. The iron didn't ring the way it used to. The intense cold had gotten deep into the metal, turning the grand, sweeping chiming into a series of flat, wooden thuds that sounded like someone hitting an old, frozen log with an ax. By the twelfth strike, the sound just sort of gave up, running out of breath entirely.

That ringtone reminded me of my birthday. *flashback on the morning of Xavier's birthday* "Knock knock! Knock knock!" I cursed out loud for that annoying sound made by the morning witch herself. “Ding, ding, ding…” Zane’s shell-phone suddenly rings loudly in his pocket. He glances down fast at the glowing screen. “Sorry, Sandra, my hands gotta take this urgent call.” “Sure, go right ahead.” Zane steps a few paces aside with his device, lifting it to his ear. “Hello?”
