Yvonne’s POV Seven days. That was all we had. Richard’s words from earlier still echoed in my head, slicing through the quiet like the edge of a well-sharpened dagger. “In seven days, we take her out.” Take her out. The simplicity of those words was deceptive. It wasn’t that easy. Nothing involving Selena ever was.

"It does not divide evenly. How do we split it?" "Two days each with one day free," he proposed. I objected immediately. "Two days is not enough." Jax agreed for once. "Not nearly enough." "During the day, anyone can be with her," Riven specified. "But nights, the bed she sleeps in, must be designated." "I want Mondays and Fridays," I said. It gave me bookends on the week. "Tuesdays and Saturdays," Jax chose, claiming weekend strength for public moments. "Wednesdays and Sundays," Riven took, balanced in the middle and end. "That leaves Thursday free."

I tell myself I’m not going to watch him today. That I’m done with it. That whatever this is, this is a pattern, this tension, this… thing… I’m not going to feed into it. It lasted exactly twelve minutes. It starts in the hallway between the second and third period. Same place as yesterday. Same time. Same feeling.
