My chest tingled and Vines shot from the ground this time they wrapped Nico in a protective case so the wolves and beasts couldn't get to him, then they acted like spears and shot through any of the beast or wolves that came anywhere near Nico. Then Nico sat back down. I leaned back in the armchair. Neither of us said anything for a moment. Then I looked at Nico properly. “I wasn’t going to say that.” He looked at me. “Okay.” “I wasn’t.” “Okay Enzo.” “Tell me everything you have on Ricci,” I said quietly. “From the beginning.” Nico was quiet for a moment. Then he started talking.

"There are at least fifty guys out there right now who want his head." I glanced at it. I calmly kept clipping my roses. "None of my business." But my hand twitched slightly. That night, a blizzard locked down the mountain. Nico showed up alone at the freezing ski resort. He didn't bring weapons. Not even a bulletproof vest. Just a thin black coat. He stood right by the ice rock where I had my accident. The Russian snipers were in position. Red laser dots danced across his chest. Nico called my phone.

Claw my way out of this place with bare hands and bloodied fingernails. But I don’t. Or a dick.” Nico said nothing. Just took the next photo and examined it in silence. His mouth never moved. But his eyes did. Slightly. Enough to know the look in them had changed. Romano grabbed the folder and flipped through more. More girls.

I hope it burns. "Nice to meet you, buddy," Rio blurts out with a smile, following my lie smoothly. Nico just gives him a nod, very clearly feeling inferior. "It was great seeing you, Nico, but we're in a hurry. See ya." I say so as not to drag this out any longer.

I say as I race to catch up to Brooke. “Bye, Mom! We’ll be back soon!” Cyrene says. “Don’t go too far, Iniko. You’re getting close to your first shift,” she calls out. “We’re just going to the mountain,” I call back. “Go, Kiko, go!” Cyrene says, encouraging me to catch up to Brooke. I love that Cyrene is nine years old and still calls me Kiko. She’s the only one who does. It’s just like she still calls Cal Calgon. No one cares to correct her because she’s Cyrene.
