The city was deceptively calm. Natalie Evans stood on the rooftop of Phoenix HQ as twilight bled into the horizon. The battles they’d won against Orbis in the last seventy-two hours were hard-earned. Three shadow nodes terminated. The original construct silenced. Systems scrubbed. Firewalls reinforced. Yet deep in her chest, a low hum of dread still lingered. Victory had never felt so fragile. Behind her, footsteps approached. “You’re up early,” Adrian said, offering her a thermos of coffee.

"His name is Asher." Phoenix and Asher. Rising from the ashes. A new beginning born from the destruction of everything I'd once been. My sons. My hope. My reason to keep going. And somewhere, hundreds of miles away, their father had no idea they existed.

Then she inclined her head, letting the white strands of her hair fall forward like a veil of mist. “The Goddess showed me fragments,” she said softly, as if she was speaking to herself as much as to me. “The Phoenix Wolf will rise from the ashes, but not alone. It will walk beside the Golden Wolf, and the blessed Fae will shine in their path. Together, they will carry fire into shadow, and light into despair.”

She dodged each of their attack but she didn't notice the last burning ball of fire ,coming in her way when she was busy dodging other dark magic users attack. The ball hit the phoenix's body and the flame engulfed her alive . The phoenix shrieked in pain.The flame died down and left only ashes and feather. I flew down to prevent the dark magic users came close to take the feathers. Phoenix have its magic in its feathers.The feather can cure many illness and can give a new life to any creature. They have many lives, when a phoenix dies ,it arises from the ashes again.

I smile, throwing my shoulders back. Three of them burst into fits of laughter, whilst Maddox stares at me with a strange look in his eyes, one I didn’t even want to decipher, I had boiled it down to either sex or murder, neither of which I would appreciate. I should have known they would find it hard to believe, their hadn’t been a Phoenix sighting in many years, the last one when I was only a child and I didn’t know to hide what I was. But I didn’t know if they knew about that.

And yet instead of being comforted, coldness crept up and down her body. She shook her head and opened the paper bag. Her hand raised a black bonnet, in which she placed on her head until only a pair of cold blue eyes gleamed under the moon. She picked a lighter out from her pocket and lit the the paper bag on fire. A plastic scent filled her nose, but it was quickly replaced by the smell of smoke and the scattered ashes. She blew on the lighter, and the flame went out, then she looked back up to the sky and glared.

“Wait. I know why Arizona. We are going to Pheonix City. Aren’t we?” It is me who is surprised now. I stopped walking right before the escalator, “How do you know?” There is a grin with so much of self pride flashed at me. “I did my homework. That two or three months after our first break-up, I found a lot of things about. Your brothers ashes are scattered in a city there. Why are we going there? To meet my bro- in- law. That would be cool. I mean, you know, to feel his presence once.”

After sunrise, Dario returned to the manor. The east wing had been burned beyond recognition. Workers moved through the ruins to clear the remaining debris. Julia stood next to Dario. She was wrapped in a blanket, and her face looked pale. "Do you think Daisy might still be inside?" Julia asked shakily. Dario ignored her completely. He stared at the items being carried out from the wreckage. He couldn't tell whether he felt relieved or terrified. "Don Verdant!" one of the workers called out as he ran over. "We found this near the staircase on the east side."

But tonight, it was ours alone. Inside, the air was still, carrying the faint scent of fresh wood and promise. I closed the door behind us, shutting out the world. My cut hung heavy on my shoulders, but when I looked at her, it was like the weight lifted. “Kat,” I said, my voice rough, the name tasting like home. “Tonight, it’s just you and me. Before the boys, before the noise. I want this night with my Phoenix.” Her smile was soft, but her eyes blazed, and I knew she understood. This wasn’t about escape—it was about claiming the quiet, the fire, the bond we’d sworn before gods and family alike.
