Rising Ashes Phoenix Novels & Stories

While I thought I would be afraid to see the beasts so close, I'm actually in awe. A phoenix bursts into flame near one of the training rings, wings spreading wide before settling back into a controlled burn. A moon serpent slithers past me following their bonded. It hisses in my direction, almost as if it knows I don't belong here. A massive wolf-like creature stalks beside its bonded, eyes glowing faintly as it watches everything. There are so many beasts everywhere that my eyes don't know where to land and I am utterly and completely starstruck. Something winged circles overhead, but way too fast to track.

A bright streak of light cut across the darkness, then another, and another—flashes of gold and red wings tearing through the smoke. The Phoenixes. Kayla froze where she stood, the torch still in her hand. The biggest phoenix swooped low, its heat washing over me even from the pyre. The air roared with its cry. Kayla stumbled backward, her confident smirk vanishing in a heartbeat. “Protect your Queen!” she shouted. The phoenix let out another shriek, the ground trembling as its talons brushed the stones. The flames around the pyre scattered into sparks. Kayla screamed, dropping the torch. It rolled across the ground.

*Puchi* Pazuzu looked at the hand sticking out his back with wide eyes filled with disbelief. His body screamed in pain as his heart, for his heart was smelted by the great fire of the phoenix; yet Pazuzu refused to accept his fate. He screamed in anger and slapped Asherah’s chest, flattening the giant orbs that threatened to spill out momentarily and sending her slamming into the ground! *Boom*

He sat down in front of her, motioning to her chest. She could feel the scars there, even though they didn’t hurt anymore. But for some reason, she wasn’t ashamed of them. They were her determination, her resilience, and her love. Slowly, she nodded, removing the fur around her shoulders. Kashor looked over the wounds and then smiled. “Like us, you carry the markings of your story. Now, I mark you as this.” He began to draw lines with the ash of the stick, incorporating her scars. “There are fires that burn too bright, they blind and go out without being truly seen. Sophia wailed, her cries echoing through the cemetery. She lunged forward, her hands clawing at the ashes as they scattered. The gray powder clung to her hair and skin, mixing with her tears as she wept uncontrollably. She pressed her head to the ground, her body trembling with sorrow. "My baby," she sobbed, her voice barely audible. "I’m so sorry… I’m so sorry…"

Aria’s pov The dream comes again. I see flames all around, red and gold, like a living storm. When I reach for them, they burn, but not my skin.
