“You will all travel to the exact mountain town your mother and I used to visit.” The triplets exchanged uneasy glances. None of them were foolish enough to believe this was simply a family trip. Not when their father looked this satisfied.

"Need company on the trail?" Lena, Sara, and Tom joined. "One last trip with the elders. We come along." The traveler, named Finn, sat down. "My pack lives far west. Got turned around during storms. Threats on the roads." Dane nodded. "We guide you back. Reflect on our journey while we walk. Stories help the miles pass." Ezra packed light bags. "Final adventure feels right. Love, battles, and shaping future. All of it." They set out brisk. Trail talk started immediately.

The triplets were waiting by their car. I started walking toward them, then I saw him. Fenrir walked towards his car. My feet moved before my mind did. I ran. “Hey,” I called out as he stepped out. He paused, barely. “Hey,” he answered. No smile. No warmth. His voice was distant, like it was traveling from somewhere far away. “Mind giving me a ride home?” I asked, stepping closer. His jaw tightened. “Ain’t you going with the triplets?” he asked, eyes fixed straight ahead, refusing to look at me.

The chill came deep from my bones. I wrapped the small blanket tighter around me, but it felt like some invisible force was sucking the warmth out of me. No matter what I did, I just couldn't get warm. Just as I was about to collapse, a black car slowly approached, stopping at the entrance of the rest stop. As if I finally found my lifeline, I used every ounce of strength I had left to shuffle forward. Only, when the window came down, it wasn't Uncle Cole who sat in the driver's seat. It was a stranger who introduced himself as Saul.
