The metallic stench from Cora's blood lingered, and he wrinkled his nose, fighting the urge to belch. Clyde stripped out of his entire clothes. He needed a long warm bath to get the dirt off him. Damnit! He couldn't believe how much blood she had lost. He still couldn't believe that Violet did that to her as well. Stepping into the bathroom, Clyde headed straight to the shower. He turned the tap on, letting the warm water fall on him, the effect gradually soothing his nerves. When he closed his eyes, his mind flashed back to the scene inside the closet.

Creed looked back over to the animal; the head was lying in a bucket while the blood drained. I've seen a lot of blood in my time in this land, but not so much as this. It flowed heavily into the bucket while I looked away. Fluffy was utterly troubled; he hopped up on the bed, despite Creed growling at him putting his head in my lap. Covering my mouth, concentrating on Fluffy, Creed sighed and continued to empty the remnants of the animal.

Without waiting for his remaining words, everyone present rushed out of the room, and we ran, trusting our noses to handle the rest. We left the residential area and caught Rodney's smell. Apparently, he wasn't far off, as we caught sight of him, but something about him struck me as odd. “Rodney!” I yelled and bounded ahead, arriving in front of him. The man looked at me with a variety of emotions, but before he could even speak, he collapsed like a puppet whose strings had been cut. I picked up his body when I noticed a line of blood on his chest. Ripping it off, a sight that made my blood run cold lay before my eyes.

"Why don't you go wash your hands?" "Okay!" He scampered off toward the bathroom Troy pointed out, Mr. Hoppy left temporarily on one of the chairs. As soon as he was out of earshot, Troy leaned forward conspiratorially. "So. On a scale of one to ten, how good was—" "Troy!" Multiple voices chorused at once. "What? I'm invested in their happiness!" "You're invested in gossip," Rhodes corrected, but he was smiling despite himself. I fled to the coffee pot, using the act of pouring and doctoring my cup as an excuse to avoid eye contact. Ramon appeared a moment later, looking annoyingly composed considering what we'd been doing less than an hour ago.

He looks away from Ryder, scanning the rows of other students who are staring at him, wide-eyed. "No," Adrian says, the word clipped and hard. "That is not an appropriate inquiry." He points a finger toward Ryder’s seat. "Sit down and be quiet."

I asked as my crying grew heavier. Roderick moved closer, trying to take me into his arms. Brody growled at him before he shoved him backwards. Brody then picked me up and cradled me against his chest as I cried. And it wasn’t the cute cries, it was the full ugly hysterics. “Alli-kins I’m so sorry” Roderick whispered.

“Father, can you imagine the embarrassment? Did you see what Rod just did? This is a slap on my face and I can’t take this anymore. He came all the way from New York to disgrace me. Can you see that?” Opula wailed and pointed at Rod who was trying to catch up with me.

My face lit up with heat. I looked down at Yara. There was a flash—smugness, like she thought she won. My face went cold. I pried her off and stepped back. "I'm not your dad. Mr. Fluffy is." She hit the floor and started wailing. Natalie rushed over and scooped Yara up, her face all panicked. "Luke, no matter what, you can't lay a hand on her. Where's the calm, patient guy you used to be?"

Beer sloshed over the edge, dripping onto my shirt. The group roared with laughter. “Oops,” Ryder said, not sounding sorry at all. “Guess you’ll need to wash that later. Or maybe you like the drowned-rat look. Brings back memories, doesn’t it?” My chest tightened. He remembered our freshman year. The spilled beer. The humiliation that haunted me. He hadn’t forgotten, he’d been waiting to use it again. “Ryder, cut it out,” Allison snapped, stepping forward. He smirked at her, unbothered. “Relax, sweetheart. We’re just having fun.”
