I said softly, “how you can write multiple romances based on a single topic.” “Hm,” Rome murmured. “For example,” I continued, my thoughts flowing more freely now, “two people might meet at the same place. A cafe. A workplace. A school. But the way they fall in love will never be identical.” Rome leaned slightly closer to the railing beside me. “Why is that?” he asked. “Because people are different,” I said. “Their wounds are different. Their fears are different. Their hopes are different.” He nodded slowly.

Eyes lock across a crowded room, or someone is doing dishes and their partner sneaks up to give them a hug and nibble on their ear. Romance is more than just bedroom mechanics. It’s all the moments leading up to and the moments after. Many romance books have no sex scenes at all, everything is fade to black or behind closed doors. Just like that for them, their small, sweet moments where everything in their relationship which were making their relation more stronger and bringing them closer at moments of life. "I want to say something to you" She said to him, still standing in her position.

When we got together, we discussed interesting topics instead of the catty or needy conversations about men and female competition that I’d endured in so many female gatherings. “Lisa is a typical writer,” Kenzie teasingly offered. “She’s a quiet people watcher.” Oscar raised a brow. “Is that so?” he said with a tone that showed that he was impressed. “What do you write?” “Nothing epic,” I eagerly offered. “It’s mainly genre stuff.” “Such as…,” he continued. “I enjoy writing romance thrillers,” I replied. “Paranormal romance thrillers,” Kenzie added. Oscar grinned and studied me with a bit more care than I was comfortable with.

It pulled at something in me I should not possess. This is why I should stay away. I do not. Instead, I trace the faint pull of her thread until I find her again. She sits at her small desk, hair loosely tied back, laptop open, notebook waiting beside it. Her thumb rests on the trackpad as if she has been debating whether to write for some time. Then she exhales and begins. A romance manuscript. Her fingers move slowly across the keys. She writes of two souls drawn together by something deeper than fate. Two beings choosing one another even when the world insists they should not.

“Care to explain what inspired that level of passion?” Riley’s cheeks warmed. She gripped the strap of her bag tighter. “I guess I just connected with the tension. The characters wanting something they know they shouldn’t. The way it builds until it feels like they’ll break if they don’t touch.” Professor Voss leaned against the desk, crossing her arms. The movement pulled her blouse slightly tighter across her chest. Riley forced her eyes up. “Interesting,” Elena murmured. “Many students write about romance. You wrote about the ache. The risk.” She tilted her head. “Late office hours tomorrow if you want to discuss expanding that analysis. I don’t offer this to everyone.”

He said, gazing intensely at me. "And the most abused." It was silent for a while before I spoke again; "Do you know something I really want to do?" "What's that?" Dean inquired. "I want to write a romance novel." I told him. "Why can't you just write one now?" He questioned. I chuckled softly and looked at him, "Like our professor would say, it is easy to write about what we haven't ever felt before but the real ardor comes when we've felt it, something we've experienced. It's not like I can't write it based on the movies I've watched or books I've read but I would love to write it based on how I feel. There were racks of clothes. My father was standing by the window, talking into a phone. He looked at me and pointed to a chair. "Sit. We don't have much time." I sat. A woman with a headset walked over to me. "I'm Abby from the PR team. We need to move fast. The morning news cycle starts in six hours. We need the “Proof of Romance” package ready by then." "Proof of romance?" I asked. My voice felt dry. "Chloe is in the dressing room," Abby said, ignoring my question. "She’s ready. We’re going to do three sets of photos. One casual, one semi formal, and one official.”
