Lucien stepped directly in front of Althea despite visibly struggling to remain standing. The guardian growled low at him. “Counterpart.” The word carried hatred. Recognition. Possession. Then the guardian attacked. The creature moved impossibly fast for its size. One massive claw slammed toward Lucien— but Ronan intercepted it first in full wolf form. The collision shattered half the chamber wall instantly. Ronan roared violently as the guardian forced him backward across the floor. Even the Alpha struggled against its strength. “MOVE ALTHEA!” Ronan roared. Varis reacted immediately.

“I don’t... God, Liora...” Her chest filled with fury even as gratitude softened her. She wiped her face as if trying to scrub the memory clean. “I haven’t been fighting back enough,” she told herself, voice low and burning. “Not anymore.” Grey held her like someone sheltering a fragile artifact. He stroked her hair behind her ear, murmured nonsense ... soft, salving ... until they both relaxed into the warm lie. Then the door exploded inward. Ronan barreled in, panting, eyes flaring like torches, chest heaving. “Why are you so close to my woman, you fucking abductor?” He didn’t ask. He accused.

He hit the stone fountain with a sound of breaking bone and slumped into the water, the clear pool instantly turning crimson. "Ronan!" I tried to run to him, but the guards, recovered from the flash, swarmed me. Malakar shifted back into his human form mid-stride. He was naked, his body covered in sweat and Ronan’s blood, the silver splinter still buried in his shoulder. He didn't pull it out. He walked to the fountain, reached in, and hauled Ronan out by his hair. Ronan was limp, his eyes rolled back, unconscious and broken.

I stepped closer to the line, letting my pitch-black eyes lock onto each of them. "I am going to ask this exactly once," I whispered, stopping in front of the tallest guard. "Who sold me out?" The pressure in the room became unbearable. The guard on the far left—the one who had taken the midnight shift by my door—started to visibly shake. Sweat beaded on his forehead, his breathing ragged as his wolf completely fractured under my dominance. "It was me, sir," the guard choked out, dropping his gaze to the floor, entirely unable to look me in the eye. "Ronan caught me on the perimeter. He paid me. I heard you through the door... I called him and told him the academic supervisor was inside."

I warned. “No, no, I’m not,” the rogue stammered. “Look, it’s not too far now.” We reached a small mountain. There were two guards who watched as we approached. The rogue stopped and said, “See, it’s right here. I…” I didn’t let him finish and drove my elbow into the back of his skull, cracking his skull. The rogue fell and convulsed on the ground. I stepped over him and approached. The guards tensed but I spoke before they did, “I am Ronan, son of Elder Cassius of Moonvale.”

Bella’s POV “Say that again.” Thor didn’t repeat himself right away, which told me he understood exactly how badly I needed a second to catch up before he made me hear it twice. “Ronan turned himself in at the council chamber,” he said finally. “Mid-audience. Told them his father isn’t the real threat. Told them you’re the target, not just Draven.” My legs found the porch railing before I’d consciously decided I needed something to hold onto.
