Royally Not Ready Novels & Stories

“Can we get on with today's bills?” The assistant royal secretary brought out the several scrolls that had been untouched for the past few weeks, but were still relevant. He picked the first scroll. “This is actually scary, but very important.” He stated, clearing his throat. “Your Majesty, as one people, we ask in unity that you take a Queen with wolf roots as the current Queen has been unable to bear you a child.” He read out, and they all turned to Hyacinth. Of course, we don't have a child. We have not even tried for one.

I closed my eyes for a second, Vexley's beautiful, angry face flashing in my mind, her voice screaming that she wouldn't be my little secret. I opened my eyes, gripped the wooden armrests of my throne so tightly, and spoke in a clear, loud, and completely unyielding voice. "I am not ready for marriage yet." The entire hall went completely, deathly still.

I asked as I read through an email about the next gathering of royal spouses. “Air-iss-uh,” Trick answered from where he leaned on the doorframe. He wore dark blue fitted dress pants with a white button shirt and a vest that matched his pants. His dark hair hung over his eyes, begging for me to brush it back. “That’s what I thought,” I said, looking at him over the top of my laptop screen. “And there’s no werewolf queen right?” “Not for the current king,” he confirmed. “Andreas just turned twenty-one, though, so I imagine it will be sometime soon.”

he greets me, his happy expression growing as I greet him back with a laugh. “Hey, my gorgeous Alpha.” He crosses his hands behind his back, lifting his chin with a smug face. “Ready to meet the royals?” “The royals?” I ask, squinting my eyes. His grin grows wider. “Yes, we didn’t announce ourselves as the new future leaders properly, I’m afraid.” “That’s not good,” I shake my head, struggling to keep myself from cracking up. “They will be missing out on our wedding gift if we don’t provide to that right away.”

"And if I'm not ready?" Kenneth's smile was sad but understanding. "None of us were ready, little Bell. Father wasn't ready when his father died unexpectedly. Mother wasn't ready to become queen consort at twenty-three. I wasn't ready to be crown prince at twelve." He reached out as if to touch my cheek, though I felt nothing. "But ready or not, the blood in your veins carries fifteen generations of rulers who found their way. You will too." He began to fade, the throne room dimming around him.

he revealed. “You are one hell of a crazy man already. I have no idea how poor Nick is going to keep up with your tantrums now,” I teased. “Oh shut up !” Rob huffed annoyed while flicking my forehead and stormed out. In a few months, the Beta will be wobbling out. Hehe. I can’t wait to see him walk like an inflated balloon. “Since the new Council is in place, when is the Coronation of the Queen ?” Grandpa Talon asked.

he stuttered, and his voice trailed off. I knew where he was heading but he felt I'd be upset if he continued. I sighed, I was already feeling exhausted from all this, and I needed some break, a little break to refresh my mind. I halted, sticking my hands into my pockets. Adam rammed into me, he was just a few steps away from me. "Shit!" He exclaimed and I stared at him nonchalantly. “The King has given his orders. Start the preparations for a welcoming party right away. Tonight, she will be pronounced as the future Queen of Ravkan," I said to him.

I leaned against the railing and closed my eyes, taking in a deep breath of the cool night air. Tomorrow, the mating balls week of festivities would be over. I would return home and watch Lynn show her mate off to our parents while they drowned her in praise and affection. Should I tell them about the rejection? Or should I just say that as usual I didn't meet my mate? Either way they would be disappointed, if I told them he had been an alpha they would be furious I managed to ruin it, and if I said I didn't meet him I would just be a failure. Yet again.

The thing it is remembering before the sealing. The room was so quiet. I thought about the emissary. Of Cassandra at the boundary stone. About the patient, deliberate pace of Claus's advance - not hurrying, not hesitating. Moving at the speed of something that had been waiting centuries and had finally been proven right. "He wants it to choose him," I said. "He believes it already has," Marcus said. "He believes the moment it wakes fully, it will recognize him and return to him." That the Royal line had always been a transient thing. That the sealing was an error the power will set right of itself when it knows what is being offered.

The grand hall of the Adernia court was adorned with opulent decorations, and an air of anticipation filled the room. King Fredrick sat upon his majestic throne, his expression regal and resolute. Lord Arcturus, standing beside him, exuded an air of confidence, his unwavering loyalty to the king evident in his stance. As the council of lords assembled, their murmurs of discontent grew louder. They questioned the king's decision to name Princess Isabella as his heir, citing her youth and inexperience as reasons to reconsider. Their concerns reverberated through the hall, creating an atmosphere of tension.
