I am here," Rylan patted her back and realized it was not an act any longer, so he decided to call Terrance and ask him to return to the hotel, or wherever he had made a reservation for them to stay. Lillian snuggled in Rylan’s arms and hugged him tightly. This was her first time going somewhere other than her school to her house; she had never been to her friend’s house, and now she was miles away from her home. “Calm down, Ah Lian, calm down!” Rylan knew why she felt scared, but still, she had the guts to go and hug his thigh. At first, she was not that scared, but when Rylan said those things about the kidneys and the heart, she felt scared. When she talked about those things, she felt no

It’s actual fear threading through her voice as she continues, “Faye is different, Lyra. Faye is the kind of girl you see sitting silently in the corner of the cafe and you look and think, hey she’s pretty and so quiet, but when you walk into a room where they’re deciding how to flay a man alive, or how to beat someone up so bad she never stands again, when you walk into the rooms where they think of how to ruin lives, she’s the one that sits at the head of the table. Faye Clarke is the green snake under the green grass. You never see her coming until it’s too late.”

Her luck wasn't always going to save her. She looked back with uncertainty and Kyle's eyes hardened. They seemed to scold her. She parted her lips to voice out her fears, "Ahhhh!" A scream bounced off the wall before she got a single word out. Shaken, Jasmine looked ahead and her heart convulsed in terror. "You piece of shit! Have you been following me?" Lila growled. She was holding a thick bamboo stick while Kevin wriggled at her feet on the floor. Tbc…

Lia was shaking now. Tears streamed down her face. “I don’t want to hurt anyone,” she sobbed. Selena struggled to stand. Blood trickled from her lip. “You’ll kill us all,” she spat. Lia stepped closer. Voice breaking. “Then walk away.” The stones pulsed. Selena froze. For the first time— She was afraid. “You won’t,” Selena said weakly. “You’re not a killer.” Lia met her gaze. “No,” she whispered. “But I will end this.”

Shards rained across the rugs. When it passed she stayed in his arms. Sweating. Trembling. Blood on her lips that tasted like him. “I am scared,” she whispered. First time she admitted it out loud. Kael stroked her hair. Rough hand surprisingly gentle. “Fear is fine. Fear keeps you alive. But do not let it chain you.” They stayed like that while the night grew thicker. Wounds open. Power humming between their skins. War waiting right outside the walls. Somewhere in the dark Rowan prowled closer. And inside Lyra’s chest the old Lunar thing stretched wide. Hungry for blood. Hungry for the king holding her. Hungry for the war it was born to finish.

From far behind them, Kayden’s eyes widened in shock as he watched them fearing what may come upon them. Layana rushed to Declan, his eyes were closed a deep frown on his forehead. “Fight it!” she said cupping his face, her hands were shaking from fear, not even wanting to think about what could happen, the darkness grew, its putrid stench of evil and death filled the air, weighing down and cutting off the very air one needed to breathe. Layana staggered back as she heard the manic laugh of The Dark Lord. Layana stood up she needed to reach him! This couldn't be it; this was not the end- she refused to believe it!

He threw himself into his mother’s arms, his small frame shaking with a terror that surpassed any threat from the Architects. "Mama, the 'Ink' is back," Kaelen sobbed into her tunic. Lyra felt the sensory reality of his fear—the way his heartbeat was "stuttering" against her own. She looked around the street, her sapphire-human eyes searching for a glitch. Everything looked normal: the taxis, the pigeons, the smell of a nearby hot dog stand. But she felt the "Static" in the air—a high-frequency hum that told her the "Unread" state was being "Interrupted."

Lucian I watched droves of vampires leave through the gate that had opened. With the gate opened, I could feel Trinity’s state of mind easier. She was frightened, but she didn’t seem to be in danger. A spike of terror rippled through her, and I went stiff. I pushed power into our bond, trying to see what was happening. But all I got were flashes of fear. I saw Mark’s face. I heard gunfire and that woman’s voice shouting orders. There was worry and

Tristan said calmly. “No! No! The monster is here! He’ll hurt me! I’m noisy! I’m scared. ” Lance took a step to get closer to Skye, but couldn’t, as Skye pointed at him. “Mummy! He’s going to kill me! He’s going to kill us, mummy!” Celine’s eye followed what Skye was pointing. The moment her hazel eyes met Lance’s blue sea eyes, fear gripped Celine’s body. “L-Lance… Y-You...”

My head snaps back, and my cheek burns from the sting of the slap. “I won’t repeat myself again, you whore. Shut. The. Fuck. Up!” He growled, making his accent more prominent.
