Do they know who I am? The rumble of a car engine, the squeal of tires against the concrete, and a few panicked honks from nearby traffic. We’re on the move, driving so chaotically I’m jostled around like nothing more than a sack of potatoes. A sane person would panic if they were in my shoes. They’d scream, cry, maybe even throw up.

A heavy sigh escaped his lips, carrying with it a blend of frustration, worry, and a longing for answers. Lark's knuckles turned white as he tightened his grip on the steering wheel, his foot pressing harder on the accelerator. The engine responded with a fierce roar, propelling the car forward with increasing speed. The rush of wind against the windows and the sound of the tires gripping the road were drowned out by the heavy silence that filled the car, weighted with unspoken tension and conflicting emotions.

Michael’s truck was definitely not winning any awards for a smooth ride. Every time we hit a dip in the mountain pass, the whole cabin rattled so hard I thought my molars might actually vibrate right out of my head. It was that kind of low-end hum that settles deep in your bones and stays there.

"We have company." The heavy, unmistakable rumble of high-powered engines began to echo through the quiet mountain air. It started as a distant growl, but within seconds, it grew into a deafening roar. I could hear the gravel crunching under heavy tires, the sound of multiple vehicles tearing up the long, neglected dirt driveway that led to our hidden sanctuary. One. Two. Three. It sounded like an entire army was descending on the mountain.

In the blink of an eye, everything spiraled into chaos. The jarring sound of metal-on-metal collision cut through the tension-filled silence. A car, too close and moving too fast, attempted to brake in vain, the screeching of tires against the pavement echoing ominously in the still air. I yell hitting the steering wheels in frustration, as I fall back on the seat, I hear screeching sounds down the road making my heart skip for the hundredth time in seconds . I pick up my phone hoping to call Kate but the bars are empty, no single network, how?, ?That's just it, stepping out of the car, I raise my phone in search of a network bar maybe but it doesn't show. The screeching noises, then Bush rattling too persist even more, making me panic, as I run back inside the car,hitting my leg at the base of the car as I stumble into my car. She'd be mortified, but it served her right. The steering wheel was scalding hot, and I'd swear I heard the blood on my hands sizzle, but that might have just been my anger bubbling over.
