Nico didn’t offer thanks. He led her down the steps. A black SUV idled just off the circular drive, windows dark, engine steady—Rocco’s brand of ready. The guard at the nearest pillar watched them with professional boredom.
At the car, Nico opened the passenger door for her. “This is a mistake,” he said, quiet enough that only she could hear.
“It’s the only strategy left that doesn’t start with a body,” she answered.
He closed her in, rounded the hood, slid into the driver’s seat. The SUV rolled forward, down the drive, toward the open gate.
