His pain was palpable, and it mirrored my own in a way that was almost surreal. “I’m sorry about that,” I said softly, my voice barely more than a whisper, hoping to offer some small comfort. Her absence was a constant ache, a wound that wouldn't heal, a silence that was deafening.
