Elyssa stumbled out of the private room, clutching her stomach, doubled over on the sidewalk as she threw up.
She wiped her face, pulled herself together, and walked away alone, tears streaking her cheeks.
Even through a screen, her pain was palpable.
A dull, relentless pounding started behind my temples. My chest ached as if someone were tearing it open by hand.
I collapsed onto the sofa, breathing hard.
