Chapter 17 Hannah's POV The bass was thumping through the floorboards of Sarah’s Salcedo condo long before I even stepped off the elevator. When the doors opened, the hallway smelled like a mix of expensive perfume and cheap pizza—the universal scent of a Friday night well spent. ​Inside, the transformation was complete. The "12th Floor Survivors" had officially shed their corporate skins. Ties were tied around foreheads, heels were kicked into a corner, and the air was thick with the kind of laughter that only happens when the boss isn't around.

“What?” “I'm really sorry for yesterday.” “Yeah.”

As he gestures for me to take the call. Climbing off the bed, I rush over to my purse and take it out. Swiping the answer button, I listen for Lisa’s voice. “Hello.” She finally says and then I smile because I already miss her. She is like a sister to me, and it feels strange to not wake up hearing her voice. “Hey, what’s up?” I ask before turning to glance at Sebastian. “You forgot a couple things here and Mr. Sandhill said he will give me your final paycheck so I can send it to you. But where do I send it? You didn’t exactly leave a forwarding address.” She sounds a little upset this morning and I can understand why.

"Now that you're out, just forget about the past." With that, he sighed once more before driving off. I watched his car disappear into the distance. My fingernails dug into my palms until they drew blood. Forget? How could I ever forget?

I wouldn't be able to keep a bland look on my face, especially with Sophia's watchful eyes on me, after telling me of her suspicions. He laughed hard at that like I was making a joke…which I had not.

"Where are you? Where did you run off to? "Come back now, and I'll let the matters that happened at today's birthday banquet slide. "Heidi Yates, I won't allow you to marry someone else!" There were more than 99 unread messages and dozens of missed calls. I didn't reply. Instead, I deleted everything and blocked him without hesitation. There had been plenty of beautiful moments in our chat history. That was why, no matter how cruel he had been, I had never once considered deleting his contact.

Ignoring the gazes, I walked straight to Xavier, who was sitting on the floor like a defeated dog. I sneered from above him, "Isn't this great, Xavier? Justin's dumping Sandra, and I'm dumping you. Now, you and Sandra can live happily ever after!" Suddenly, my phone vibrated with a message from my best friend Shelley: "Girl, you're amazing! I'm so happy for you! I've 'edited' the video for you. Now, let's show it to the whole world!" I opened Twitter to find that Shelley had shared the video, tagging Sandra with the caption: "Just wanted a ride? Turns out she wanted the man too. Should have just bought a special toy, you shameless woman!"

The city, with its skyline aglow, bore witness to the catharsis of a conversation that laid bare the scars of the past. The conversation shifted, taking on a note of determination. "Ryzen," Evelyn began, her voice laced with newfound resolve, "I won't let fear dictate our future anymore. I won't let the ghosts of my past haunt our present.
