Scarred Roses, Burning Vengeance
And this night.
Tonight is the night I see him once again.
I stand before the mirror, adjusting the pendant at my throat where it hangs pretty between my collarbones. My hair, dyed to erase the colour Vincent knew, falls in sleek waves. The black dress I have on clings to me, understated yet elegant, a universe-or five years away from the broken woman he last saw and sold off, her dress torn, voice rough with rage.
I practice my smile, charming enough, deadly enough to conceal. It's a tool just like everything else, like the facts I've gathered, the plans I've outlined. I trace the edge of the pendant's face, its cool surface grounding me.
