Our gazes met and held for a few seconds, then I looked away, my heart racing. “I wrestled three of those beasts, Alruin and I have no idea what they are. Some sort of hybrid with no weakness, they just keep coming at you, but not recklessly. He looks exactly like his father, with a sharp, narrow snout and thin, cruel lips. Two giant, bald pack enforcers stand right behind his chair like statues. They look like a nasty cross between a rogue wolf and a mountain bear. Great. Seraphina set me up and brought me straight to Harvey. I should have known she was too stupid to realize you never make secret deals with a rogue pack leader's heir. Harvey flashes his sharp teeth in a fake smile. "Good to see you in my territory, Lestat." I let out a low, rough growl. "I wish I could say the same, rogue."

Someone please tell me what is going on here? "What the fuck is wrong with you!" I screamed, glaring at the back of his head when he stopped in front of the door. Finally, he turned to look at me, but the smirk on his face was quite unsettling. He yanked my arm harshly and I stumbled forward, nearly tripping over my feet. "You're a sly little one, aren't you?" He chuckled darkly and whilst staring at me with a sinister glint in his eyes, he called out to someone unknown to me, "Alpha...I brought you someone special."

Still, I forced my face to remain calm. "You are a sick, crazy, paranoid beast." I looked away from him, but he chuckled, and somehow that was worse than if he'd laughed. "Yes, I may be sick and perverted at times, and I admit I can get fucking crazy when people cross me, but..." He moved so fast that one second he was sitting across from me and the next he was beside me. My body recoiled automatically, and Alastor growled because he didn't like that. He never liked when my body remembered what my mind already knew.

The ground trembled. And then—the stone broke open. A fissure ripped through the platform, light spilling from the depths. And from the darkness—something rose. A shape. A figure. Not human.
