You should always stop to marvel at the beauty around you, but never let it force the danger from your mind. As we stepped from the sidewalk and into the Carnival grounds, the sweet scent of pastries and candy erupted around us. I had never been to a Carnival before, but had seen television shows and movies countless times on our old television. This was nothing like the movies. If anything, what I had seen on the TV seemed dull in comparison to what went on in the Iridescence Pack.

Vastria grabbed the poster, “It’s coming here tonight? The carnival of ‘Fright Night’?” The carnival of 'Fright Night' the two girls was excited over was a well-known carnival in the goth community. It was of course a vampire themed carnival. The image or mascot of this carnival was a bear. This bear was an angry/grumpy looking bear giving off an evil grin of two-toned various colors. The difference with this bear was that it had fangs and claws to match the theme of the carnival. The two girls had waited a long time for the carnival hoping it would come to town. The carnival would visit various places once, then go on to the next. It was a one-night carnival. They could not pass it up.

The carnival was worse once you got inside. Not in a bad way exactly. Just overwhelming. Too much light, too much sound, too many smells all fighting for space at once. Fried dough, popcorn, damp grass, hot grease, metal, cheap body spray. Games lined one side in a bright row of scam and desperation. Rides crowded the other, all spinning arms and blinking signs and music playing over music until none of it sounded like a real song anymore. Clair seemed delighted by all of it. She dragged me first toward the stalls, then toward a row of food stands because “looking cute is hard work,” then back toward the rides because she wanted to “see what had the best lighting for photos.”

Their parents chased behind them, looking exhausted and carrying collections of cheap toys won from game booths. “What do you want to do first?” Brandon asked, his gaze locking on one of the rides that flipped you upside down and spun around. “That looks like fun.”

I parked my car at a safe distance and watched as the Ferrari family stepped out, their fashionable attire standing out amidst the carnival-goers. The carnival was a vibrant display of colors and sounds. Lights flashed and music blared, creating a dizzying atmosphere. The air was filled with the tantalizing aroma of fried food and sugary treats, causing my stomach to rumble. Towering rides spun and twirled, eliciting screams and laughter from thrill-seekers. Children ran around with balloons, their faces painted in bright hues, while their parents struggled to keep up. Street vendors lined the paths, peddling a variety of goods, from cotton candy to stuffed animals, their voices calling out

But now, she’s regretting her decisions. “I don’t think my body could handle it Cai.” Her body is still sore from travelling back and forth for her orphanage work. But Cai is not listening. He is too mesmerized with the rides and stuff. She scoffed at him and held his arm. "Please.. please…let's go. It's not that scary and speedy . Please…Rian, it will be fun…please," she pleaded but he shook his head. "No, definitely not. Have you seen its height? I will definitely get a heart attack if I get into this ride," he uttered, gazing at that ride before him. Adrian used to get terrified of sitting in any kinds of rides in the carnival from his childhood but on the other hand, she was totally opposite of it. She could live her entire life in those rides of the carnival.

Ella POV I hadn't attended the carnival in the capital in a very long time. In fact, I hadn't even realized it was coming up until Alexander invited me to go with him. At first, I couldn't picture someone like him at a carnival—with children running around, people eating cotton candy, and playing silly games in an attempt to win cute plushies. The capital held this carnival every year. It was an opportunity for all of the packs to come together and celebrate the end of summer before the cold weather set in. Each pack, even the smallest, sponsored a ride or a game, usually something related to their strengths or what they were famous for.
