Setting her down gently, I took her hand in mine as we followed Addy towards the carnival grounds. The carnival grounds were alive with the sounds of laughter and music, the air filled with the scent of cotton candy and popcorn. Asher's Pov Caden wasn't wrong. The Carnival Cruise was amazing. I believe I laughed more times than I could count and yell more times than I could ever imagine. Carnival Cruise is literally a carnival. Lots of people come out dressed in feathers and colours. It's like a mini adaption of the Brazilian Samba and more of a Halloween party (a less grotesque type) and it was fun.

“How much?” “Fifteen hundred. Cash only.” William handed it over without blinking. The boy scanned three fake VIP passes to their phones. “Hold it high and walk fast,” he muttered. “Don’t talk. Don’t stop.” They slipped through the scanner. It beeped once. Then again. Then again. They were in. Inside the carnival, everything was louder, brighter, and heavier. The air smelled like caramel and sweat. Fog machines pumped white mist into the air, making it hard to see beyond a few feet ahead. Every direction pulsed with sound and people.

“So, what else do you have up your sleeve?” He chuckles softly, pulling me closer. “We’re almost there. Just one last fun thing to round up the night.” After a few minutes, we round a corner and come to an old-fashioned carnival tucked between two buildings. Strings of coloured lights glow overhead, and the scent of fresh popcorn and caramel fills the air. There’s a small Ferris wheel, a few carnival games, and a scattering of families with children. It feels wonderfully out of place, like it exists in a time of its own.

Not that I wasn't grateful for Hailey’s attempt to lift my spirits. "I don’t know," I murmured, glancing at the carnival's lively scene. "It's just... a lot."
