Lucas and Scarlett exchanged a glance before hurrying downstairs. By the time they reached the council room, the scout had already arrived. Everyone else was gathering again. Jax. Damon. Alex. Emily. Ethan. The young warrior struggled to catch his breath. Lucas stepped forward immediately. "What happened?" The scout swallowed hard. "We found them." The room went still. Damon's expression darkened. "Found who?" The scout looked around the room. Fear lingered in his eyes. Then he answered. "One of their camps."

Ronan asks. “Couldn’t tell,” the scout says. “Smelled…" wrong. Not just Blackridge. Something feral mixed in.” Jax always did like his theatrics. And his risks. “Dismissed,” Ronan says. “Food. Rest. Then I want your full report written for Cassian.” The scout nods shakily and bolts. A tense silence settles over the table. It’s a different room than the one where they plotted the Rite, but the stakes feel just as high.

I asked a scout stationed near the entrance. The man looked at me like I was a ghost walking through a graveyard. He clearly knew about the Tier-One audit and the accusations I'd leveled against the pack's most lethal shark.
