The moment she left, he pulled out his phone and dialed Zoey’s number.
It rang. Just once. Relief washed over him.
“Zoey, if you just went out for a walk, at least text me next time, okay? Don’t just leave without saying anything—I was really worried—”
But his voice was cut off by an automated message: “The number you have dialed is currently unavailable. Please try again later.”
