SARA’S POV I prayed for many nights for things to be different with Kane and i. never in my wildest dreams did I think that the change I was praying for would come in a form of his wolf and him being my mate. That news got me excited there for a moment after I recovered from my initial shock. But I could not get attached. Kane was the second Lockwood I have been mated to and they have the tendency to reject me. Kane already rejected me without having a wolf and chose the love of his life Jade over me. The words die on my lips as the car screeches to a stop and Adrian turns his heated gaze towards me. His lips curl into a sneer, his eyes frosting over. “I won’t let you work in a goddamned coffee shop or any other diner for that matter. You should be more concerned about being my wife than a waitress!” “But that’s not up to you, Adrian! I have no idea why I agreed to get married to you in the first place, but I want out.” I demand in a cold tone matching his. “And I know we’ve done this before. But the first time, we got caught up in proving something, to our families, to the world. We let everything else get in the way.” Helena’s breath hitched. “This time,” he said, “I’m asking not because of legacy or promises or business… but because I want to wake up to your messy hair and sarcasm for the rest of my life.” She swallowed. He stepped closer. “So, Helena Monroe Alfredo… will you marry me again—no deals, no contracts, no expectations. Just love. Just us.” Tears gathered in her eyes, but this time, they were soft. Grateful.

“You believe him? You’re telling me that you, who were married to this man for half a year, didn’t recognize him after all these years, and yet you still trust him?” She bit her lip, refusing to look at him. But Lucas was relentless, his gaze boring into her. “Fine, maybe you had some fairytale relationship,” he scoffed. “But if it was so perfect, why didn’t you two get back together? Why waste all these years apart?” Ella felt her face heat up. She reached for her teacup, trying to distract herself by taking a slow sip. “What, Mr. Licas,” she replied, “are you matchmaking for my ex-husband now?”

“You don’t even know the story—” “I don’t need to know the story,” I snapped. “You made it very clear that this marriage was supposed to be strictly business but now you’re out there collecting lipstick stains like trophies while I’m here trying to play my part.” “I wasn’t collecting anything.” “Oh really?” I scoffed. “Because last I checked, I couldn’t even say Liam’s name without you acting like I cheated on you, but look at you.” Rolling my eyes, I huffed, "It must be really nice, living the double standard.”

"One that I find endearing. I wouldn't mind if we were, but I think this party is for you, Miss Kane." She rolled her eyes. "Please, call me Imani... Wait. 'Miss Kane'? I never told you my last name." He laughed softly, leaning against the balustrade beside her. "Well, I heard this is the engagement of the century," he said, mirroring her posture. "The union of two great houses. They say it’s a love match years in the making." His voice held a hint of sadness she didn't understand. "What love?" she balked. "What are you talking about? Who loves who?" Disbelief washed over her features.

“You’ve already married her once.” “Yeah,” I said quietly. “And back then, it wasn’t for the right reasons. My mother wanted it before she passed, so Jessica… she went along with it. It wasn’t some grand love story. But now?” I shook my head, feeling my chest tighten. “We’ve built something real. I want to give her what she should’ve had the first time. The proposal she deserves. A wedding that’s ours. Not rushed. Not because anyone told us to. Because I want forever with her—properly this time.”

His eyes followed me, brow furrowed. When I reached him, I didn’t stop right away. Instead, I placed my hands on his shoulders. He flinched, just slightly. And that almost made me laugh. I leaned in just enough for my voice to drop, softer now. “My dear husband…” I tilted my head, my gaze locking into his. “Let’s have an open marriage.” Silence. Yes, I would serve him that hot dish first.

Sam said to her. “Hi.” She said back. “I think that we will let you guys have some space to talk and figure things out. Sam, we wanted to let you know, that should you choose to pursue the matebond, you are more then welcome to join the pack. There is a place for you here.” I told him before heading to the door. “wait, should I choose? Of course I would choose too. A mate bond is sacred and a second chance is rare. I would never reject my mate. Not by choice. So if this wasn’t pursued it wouldn’t be by my choice.” Sam said confused.

She blinked at me, and for a heartbeat her eyes shimmered with unshed tears. “You always say the right thing.” “Only because it’s true.” Behind us, Maris had found a tiara display and was now balancing one on her head, looking every bit the mischievous princess she secretly believed she was. “When I get married,” she declared, “I want one with real diamonds. The kind you can see from the moon!” “Let’s start with surviving your first real date, Maris,” I teased, and everyone dissolved into laughter again.
