Everywhere blurs. I blink hard, but it only seems to make things worse, forcing my lids almost shut until my eyes are nothing but thin, miserable slits fighting for a pinprick of focus. Suddenly, a fine, searing wire snaps inside the confines of my skull. It isn’t loud, not in the way thunder or shouting is loud, but it is absolute. It is a sharp, tiny sound, like a high-pitched screech that happens when a microphone picks up the amplified sound coming from its own speaker, creating a continuous loop.

Finally, he sat down, leaning his back towards the wall, and relaxed. After a few minutes of pin-drop silence, Aiden heard a hissing sound. He was suddenly alert and concentrated keenly on hearing the sound. After a few seconds, he heard the sound again, and this time it sounded like a snake or a rat, and what was worse was that it was coming from the same room.

She needed someone who would guide her. Someone who would help her. Her head snapped upright suddenly as a loud, deafening sound filled the air. The noise pierced her ears, making her wince. The sound continued to grow louder and louder, shaking her whole being, until it became impossible for her to hear anything else except for the terrible shrieking noise that was echoing around her and reverberating inside of her skull.

A sound drifted faintly from somewhere outside. Emily’s eyes lifted slowly toward the entrance of the bar. Another sound followed. Low. Rough. Almost like an animal growling. But not fully animal. Something about it immediately tightened every instinct inside her. Her hearing had changed ever since removing the bracelet. Even crowded spaces no longer sounded normal to her anymore. She could separate conversations from across buildings, hear footsteps through walls, even recognize different heartbeats when she focused long enough. And this sound… This sounded supernatural. Emily quietly placed money onto the counter before standing.

"What is that sound? I heard mother question as she walked back into my room. I initially thought, that is her way of trying to get me to loosen up, but then, I too was hearing a cricket kind of sound I turned towards her, and shrugged my shoulders, telling her I didn't know what sound it is that she was asking. " It must be a bird or something, but then the sound became louder, as it seem to draw closer to our ears, and we had to look outside, through the window. I was shocked to find Myles there, kneeling down and screaming my name at the top of his voice, I am very sure that his mother could hear his voice from the other side of the house.

Loud sounds of continuous gunshots echoed as well as curses, they came from all over the place. However as I tried to listen clearly, I found that I can’t. I’m there and yet I’m also not. I raise my aching head, and narrowed my eyes, only to not have an effect on the surroundings as it’s still not clear in my eyes. What is happening?

I prayed that nobody could hear me as I walked further away from the little bit of light and the big house. I heard the sound of...something. You know, when you hear something, but you can't put a name to it, but you know that you heard something? It was like that. It's not that I felt uneasy, it's just that I felt ...like whatever I'd heard was big and very nearby. I froze and held in my breath as I blinked and turned in the direction of where I'd heard the sound come from. I stared into the dark space, at first not seeing anything, until my vision cleared or somehow some kind of light shined and I was able to see what it was that I was looking at.

I can hear voices asking for help. I can feel people's emotions gently in my ears begging and hoping that someone could save them. It's like a daily routine that happens each day. “Mommy! Mommy!--” I can hear a loud cry coming from a child and an infant. I can feel their loss, hoping that they can find that certain person that they are looking for. I can also sense the metal thing falling from the sky, making a huge explosion when it reaches the ground and the sound of people panicking while thinking of a way for survival.

He blushed as he was congratulated. One spectator from afar didn't like any of it. "Fast. Ingenious. Tsk. But he's still deaf. He's useless."

I took a few steps and that's when I heard a strange sound. It sounded like the whooshing of a cloth through the air. It came from above me. I stopped dead on my tracks. Glancing up furtively at the roofs of the houses around me, nobody. I tried tuning into my dialed up hearing but it didn't work. Once my dialed up hearing was activated I could place distance of objects and if they were moving just by listening to how far away the sounds the made were.
