The temple roof cracked open, and pieces of stone fell like burning stars.
Through the smoke, I saw Seraphine rise again, her body flickering between shadow and fire. Her eyes burned brighter than ever.
“This is not over,” she said. “You can’t kill what you are.”
And then, she vanished into the flames.
The fire began to fade, leaving only ashes and silence. Damon crawled toward me, weak but alive.
He took my hand. “You did it,” he whispered.
I looked at the ashes where Seraphine had stood. My heart was heavy. “No,” I said quietly. “This was only the beginning.”
