Seraphina stepped forward. “I am Seraphina Vale.” The darkness shook. The man stumbled backward. “What are you doing?” “Taking back my mind.” A crack appeared across the darkness. Then another. The man’s face twisted. “You cannot destroy me!” Seraphina raised her hand. “I don’t have to destroy you.” The cracks spread. “I only have to control myself.” The entire darkness shattered. Seraphina opened her eyes. She collapsed into Lucien’s arms. “Seraphina!” She gasped.

I can only catch snippets of what is happening, but she is covered in blood with a gun in her hand. Suddenly, the vision goes dark, and a bright light flashes behind my eyes. I clutch my chest as darkness consumes my soul. My eyes fly open as I realize what has happened. Seraphina has broken through her runes and used some of her powers. I search back through the abyss and find Seraphina's soul is beginning to turn dark.

And I was not in the mood to be merciful. I closed my eyes. Breathed. The war was over. And I had won. The End? The city felt different on the drive back. Quieter. Calmer. Like the universe itself knew that justice had been served. I sat in the backseat, staring out at the skyline, my reflection flickering in the window. Blood still clung to my skin. But this time? I didn’t mind it. "You did it," Nadei murmured beside me. I turned to him, my lips curling slightly. "We did it."

Consciousness began to slip through my fingers like sand, leaving me suspended in a twilight realm between life and death. My mind was a maelstrom of disjointed thoughts, each one a fresh torment. Raphael's face swirled in my vision, followed by the menacing presence of that man. The memories of my transformation into a Risen, and the horrific fate that awaited Raphael at my hands, all coalesced into a grim certainty: I had made the right decision. With every fading heartbeat, I felt myself being pulled further away from the world of the living. My struggles to cling to consciousness grew weaker, until finally, I succumbed to the darkness that had been waiting to claim me.

I hope all of the suffering you inflicted on others is manifested in you, I pray that you spend your eternity burning in the very flames that consumed my parents.” And with her final words, she summoned all of her strength and tore the Lord’s head from his shoulders, letting it drop to the floor next to her with a thud. Such kind of novels only deserve this kind of ending. Huffing, Seraphine vocalized, “This is all Kayden’s fault! If he didn’t have this novel at his library, I wouldn’t have been tempted!.
