Seventeen Ships Novels & Stories

Twenty minutes later Adrian walked into a private bar on the lower side of the city. The place was closed to the public tonight. Only his people were inside. Luca stood near the counter with a tablet in his hand. “You look relaxed,” Luca said. “I was eating dinner.” “Sorry to interrupt family time.” Adrian didn’t reply. He just held out his hand. Luca gave him the tablet. Adrian studied the screen. Three cargo ships. Three different ports. All hit within the same hour. No bodies. No survivors. No witnesses. Just empty docks and missing product.

Only those currying favor with my family showed up. In front of everyone, I called Sawyer, my last act as a lovesick fool. "Sawyer, come on. Everyone is waiting for you," I said. "This is already our seventh engagement party." His voice echoed through the banquet hall's megaphone. "How many times do I have to tell you?" he huffed. "Mathilde's got a fever. What's more important, a life or some meaningless ceremony? We've been together for ten years, and you still don't trust me?"

That was enough to distract Gwen who showered Royce with kisses while saying, "Oh I am so proud of you Roycee-boo! What a great way to start the day!" This time, August was watching them. She looked happy for them but also disgusted by them. She turned to me and said, "Weirdos," while rolling her eyes. Royce then toured us to his photo exhibit. Thirteen pieces of photos which he called The Last Year of Seventeen– his concept was the final year of highschool. The final year of freedom and youth. The final year before we are faced with bigger challenges and choices that would actually impact our lives. Most of the photos were taken in the Academy. Some in the Liberty Mead with Royce’s horse. Tristan and Saoirse entered. The conversation stopped. Tristan walked to the head of the table. He wore a new coat—black leather reinforced with Aether-resistant lining, designed by Helena to dampen his emissions. He looked like a general. A very dangerous, very unstable general. "Report," Tristan said. "The fleet is fueled," Thorne said. "We have fifty ships combat-ready. Another twenty support vessels." "The Sovereign’s main cannon is online," Vane added. "Though we only have enough charge for three shots. After that, we’re throwing rocks."

But Elijah didn't comment on that. "Let's start the meeting. Report." Elijah started so some sentinels quickly brought out rolls of paper that I think was played. "Your majesty, the navigator has already been paid for the expedition. There will be a total of five battleships in the expedition. The ships are armed with heavy explosives." A sentinel explained as he read the paper he was holding. Elijah didn't react and just listened.

“It’s been handled, and they’re fine ok?” “What do you mean, fine? Your sister just went crazy,” my father said as he started ranting. Taking a seat, I massage my temples. What is wrong with these people? As my father keeps asking questions to Valerius, I receive a text telling me the smugglers had moved once again. Frowning at that, I dialed the person. He lets me know they’re heading this way and with a lot of rogues. “How many?” I asked. “At least forty, Sir,” my spy said.

"We're out. We're actually out." "Look," Jun whispered. Elara wiped her eyes and looked at the long-range Aetheric-Scanner. They weren't alone in the dark. Emerging from the shadow of the moon, and rising from the far side of the planet, were hundreds of other White Ships. They were of different shapes and sizes—some looked like floating cathedrals of glass, others like jagged shards of obsidian—but they all shared the same Architectural-Lineage. "Are those... survivors?" Mina asked, her voice trembling.

CORALINA'S POV Standing on the high northern parapet of the Frost-Hearth, the wind from the sea whipa my silver hair across my face in tangled, icy ribbons. Down in the bay, cutting through the thick grey fog of the coastal gates, a massive naval fleet rides the heavy swells. Nearly thirty iron-hulled warships, their pre-Pulse engines groaning with a low, mechanical growl that shatters the silence of the cliffs, sit anchored in our waters. They fly no pack banners—only the ragged, black-and-silver colors of the Western Coalition.
