I rasped, my voice sounding like broken glass. Satisfied, he signaled for the guard to unlock the chains. My wrists fell limp, the metal shackles hitting the ground with a dull clang. He turned around, his cashmere coat swirling as he walked out of the room, sparing me a final, dismissive glance as he left me in the dust.

It skittered across the stone floor, stopping just inches from my reach. I didn't wait. I threw my weight against the bars, my muscles screaming as I forced the shift. My bones cracked and elongated, the silver in the shackles searing my skin. I didn't care. I reached through the bars, my claws scraping the stone until I snagged the remote. The click of the release was the sweetest sound I’d ever heard. The shackles fell. The silver dampeners in the walls hummed and died. Power—raw, cold, and lethal—flooded back into my limbs. I kicked the cell door off its track.

“Even for the Mute.” “Ian—no!” He grabbed my wrist. “No, don’t!” I yanked it back. “I’m not a traitor!” He grabbed it again, harder this time, his fingers clamping down like iron around the bone. I thrashed. Pulled. Tried to wrench myself free with everything I had, which wasn’t much. He didn’t even strain. He just held me in place with one hand while the other brought the shackle up. The iron closed around my wrist with a sound that made my stomach turn.

There was a shocking amount of red liquid spreading underneath me. "Kayden, I didn't climax… My water broke. Save the pup… Save me…" I reached out and tried to grab his pant leg. However, Kayden backed away in disgust. "Your water broke? From dancing? Who are you trying to fool? Don't touch me! You're disgusting! "Guards! Throw her out! Don't let her filth stain our celebration grounds!" The guards misinterpreted his command, so they dragged me by my feet and threw me outside the entrance to the pack's territory.

I heard the shuffle of feet, the door slamming shut, and then it was just him and me. My heart was racing now, my wrists twisting uselessly against the shackles. I knew I couldn’t break them, but I tried anyway, the need to move overriding logic. “You won’t get out of those.” His voice was calm and so goddamn familiar it made my chest ache. “What?” I rasped, my throat dry, the word barely audible.

I pulled at my shackles, trying to break them, but they were made by the Fireash pack using a blend of steel and diamonds mined in our lands. They were near unbreakable, so I slumped against the wall and tried to conserve my strength for my next escape attempt, hoping that Angelia and the others would be okay.

The witch yelled at me, her loud voice easily suppressing Eva's plea. "I-" "Why aren't they healing? It should be healed by now. What did you do?" She snapped at me while embracing Eva in a tight hug. "The shackles." I muttered, already feeling guilty. "The what now?!" She questioned unbelievably and start muttering something under her breath. A second later, I heard the lock of Eva's collar open with a smooth 'click' and I had to point out the shackles around her ankles too even though it earned me a round of curses and glares.

"Offer me a world of shadows and eternity We are animals , Hunting for another supper, for another prey, Losing our soul, The love for danger is rushing through my veins , Offer me your world, your thirst for immortality We are animals, " I continue, feeling the emotions to their fullest extent and allowing it to flow through my echoing now only slightly now that the room is finished. Time passes as I go through each song, feeling confident that my performance will be great at the ball tomorrow, if all goes well. I finish with the last song, the final note slowly fading. I fold my paper back up and head off stage and towards the door, hoping that everything goes as planned. Nathaniel's POV W

Together, we are stronger. The warriors advance, their eyes locked on me, but I refuse to back down. I channel my energy, feeling it surge through my veins. The shackles begin to loosen, and I can sense the fear in their eyes. “See? I told you she has potential,” the General says, a hint of surprise in his voice. “Stop doing this!” I cry, my voice breaking with desperation. The grip of the invisible shackles tightens around me, squeezing the breath from my lungs. I can feel my wolf stirring within, and my eyes begin to glow, a fierce light igniting in the depths of my gaze.

I could see the fear radiating off him like heat. "Marek thought he was breaking me," I said. My voice didn't sound like mine anymore. It was deeper, layered with the growl of something ancient. "He thought he was making me a Dud. But all he did was make me your nightmare." I flexed my wrists. The heavy silver shackles didn't just break, they exploded. Shards of dead metal flew across the room like shrapnel. One piece caught a Harvester in the eye, and he went down with a scream.
