Shadows Of Deception
Once we were outside, away from prying eyes, I released Caleb and let out a slow breath, trying to steady the rapid thudding of my heart.
Caleb was wide-eyed, his voice barely a whisper as he hissed,
“Boss what were you thinking? You’re going to get us all thrown in jail, Boss!”
I shot him a look, sharp and cutting, one that spoke volumes without a word.
Then I blinked steadily, trying to piece together a plan as quickly as the situation had spiraled out of control.
I gestured subtly, our secret sign, the flick of my wrist followed by a tap to the chest, signaling that we were now in the realm of secrets and shadows, where words carried more than just their surface meaning.
