The whole structure collapsed back into its cluster of shards and paper, the illusion of a unified monster slipping.
Glitch.
Predator again; it lunged, blasting beam after beam at the words I’d burned into the air.
Glitch; one beam fizzled halfway, redirected by a sudden jut of shelf, the blast chewing through a stack of old TRAGIC ENDINGS manuals instead.
It couldn’t decide whether it was a god or a broken computer.
That indecision was killing it.
Good.
A deep crack boomed overhead.
For a second, I thought it was just another shelf going, but the sound was wrong—too high, too heavy.
